The exhibition opens at Science Gallery, Trinity College Dublin, on April 15th and runs until June 2011.

This major international exhibition draws together a range of installations ranging from a euthanasia roller coaster to the prosthetic head of Australian performance artist Stelarc. HUMAN+ also includes a children’s book illustrating the question on where babies come from in the IVF era to a vision of eternal life through digital means. It also features artist Eduardo Kac’s “plantimal” called the Edunia – a hybrid plant which includes the artists own DNA. HUMAN+ paints a somewhat ambiguous picture of the future of our species. What enhancements will we choose to become better humans? What happens when we live side by side with our robotic companions? How can we author our genetic futures? Find out at HUMAN+

“My Robot Companion” by Alex May (Quadratura Ltd), Anna Dumitriu, Dr Mick Walters and Prof Kerstin Dautenhahn has been commissioned as part of this exhibition and features a series of provocative heads for humanoid robots that consider the various roles they might undertake and the ethical implications of that. The project stems from Dumitriu and May’s artists residencies at The University of Hertfordshire’s Adaptive Systems Research Group.

Quadratura Press Release – for immediate distribution

Haunted Park Walk: Halloween in the Kyoto Garden

Follow the trail of glowing lanterns to reach the haunted Kyoto Garden which, for one night only, will come alive with an eerie recreation of the ancient traditions of Kaidan – Japanese tales of the strange and mysterious.

After the success of the Haunted Park Walk in Holland Park last year, Quadratura was commissioned again by The Royal Borough Of Kensington And Chelsea to create an interactive video and sound installation for Halloween, this time in the Kyoto Garden.

Taking as their theme the ancient game of Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai (A Gathering of 100 Ghostly Tales)
Quadratura will create an event that is at once haunting, beautiful and evocative.

At these gatherings 100 candles were lit and the players would each tell a ghost story. After each story a single candle was blown out and the room grew darker and darker. The game was an evocation of the spirits and with the extinguishing of the final candle something terrible would be waiting in the darkness.

The Haunted Park Walk will bring ghostly tales to the Kyoto Garden through innovative video projection and spine-tingling sound design.

Time

Friday 31 October 6pm to 10pm

Location

Kyoto Garden Holland Park London W8 (Abbotsbury Road Entrance)

Free Admission

Numbers are limited so please book by calling the Arts Service on 020 7361 3204 or email arts@rbkc.gov.uk

Transport

Tube: Holland Park (Central) or Kensington High Street (Circle and District)
Buses: 9, 9a, 10, 27, 28, 31, 49, C1, 94 and 148

Note to Editors

Quadratura is a highly innovative and creative video projection and sound design company that utilises a wide range of technologies and techniques to create unique, and often interactive, interior and exterior environments.
www.quadratura.info

Created by Alex May and Martin A Smith for Quadratura, the installation is commissioned by The Royal Borough Of Kensington And Chelsea as part of the ‘Across the Street, Around the World’ festival.
